www.landfallgardenhouse.com/Soil%20Remediation/index.htmNewfoundlanders complain endlessly about "How much rain we got", "How much wind we got", "we got no soil", we got only rock", "summer is too cold/wet/short to compost" etc. etc. etc. So I do soil remediation. I accept gravel-soil from old driveways, fibre from hanging baskets, clay from under-the-house (deepening a crawl-space). I have built a flat-bed sieve and am now rigging my first trommel. Into the sieve goes stale spoil. clay and loam drops through (three grades of mesh) and pebbles and rocks drop off the far end. I wheel the pebbles and rocks across the street to make a path into the swamp at the end of David's driveway, so he is happy. The really BIG rocks I keep and extend my rockery of crocus and nasturtiums, so I will be happy next spring. Then the stale soil goes in a thin layer on my compost bins, so my compost bins are happy. Next year it will not be stale soil; it will be RICH SOIL. Cheers, Chris
